Obviously, you’ll need a new sari. The obvious option is to buy it online. But what type of sari should you buy? You have never bought a sari before. How would you figure out what style is the best? Let us help.
First of all, if you’re dressing up for Indian weddings, we suggest you pick embroidered saris. Why? Because it’s the safest bet for you. Embroidered sarees are mostly the traditional Indian wear and you can never go completely wrong with an embroidered sari.
We assume you may say designer sarees can be a better choice. However, that’s not the case. The issue designers often experiment and sometimes, they go overboard. For a person who has never worn a sari before, it’s a big risk to take. You may end up looking weird instead of how you’re supposed to look in a sari.
Now that you roughly know what style to pick, let us tell you about the fabric.
Ideally, Indian weddings have wide use of silk sarees but we will suggest if you have to wear sari for the first time, you do not buy silk as a silk saree is very tough to handle.
Another party wear fabric is georgette and that’s what you can trust. It’s light-weight and easy to manage.
If you living outside India, you will find it very hard to find a right tailor. So, we suggest you get your saree stitched. We do provide stitching as well. Our tailor follows NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) standards and is great at what he does.
But keep in mind that there are two aspects of stitching – one is normal stitching of the saree. That would include getting the blouse stitched. Blouse is basically a crop top with a sari. You can also swap the actual blouse with a golden or silver sequined crop top. Secondly, there’s a detail called adding fall to the saree which is also necessary. If you order a customized saree, you will get all of this ready.
The second aspect is a stitched saree. We do this on special requests. Typically, it removes your hassles of learning how to drape a saree. You can just get it stitched and wear it on like a skirt. Yes, that’s possible and that’s a very recommended option to wear sari in an easy carefree manner.
If you followed the last step carefully, you’re almost ready. You’ll need some Indian accessories. If you don’t want to go overboard with it, just buy some matching bangles and earrings. That would be enough.
Don’t forget to grab a pair of fancy heels. You must wear pencil heels with saree for the best look. Practice for a few minutes before leaving the house, though. You don’t want to trip because of this new attire you’re going to wear.

Keep in mind to wear sari before the actual event and practice moving around in it. Don’t let yourself feel underconfident because of this requirement. Even Indian women who wear sari for the first time have to go through this practice phase.
Make sure you also pin up your sari properly for ease of movement. And tie your hair up in a bun. You don’t want to be wearing a sari for the first time and managing those tresses of yours at the same time. Focus just on wearing the sari and being comfortable with it.
